Super cute little “straw doll” made in Poland just after WW2. These dolls were purely decorative and made for The CHAŁUPNIK Cooperative by woman from their home. They would receive detailed instructions and all the materials needed to make the characters. The heads, bodies and bases of the dolls were usually made of wood, and the turned elements were ordered from the Precyzja cooperative in Kielce (SE Poland). Facial details were painted with poster or nitro paints and finished with colorless varnishes. Depending on the model, the dolls also had plastic or cardboard (like this one) bodies. A variety of fabrics were used to decorate the dolls, rye straw threshed with flails, sisal, combed linen, yarn, sticks, cardboard, cardboard.
